Cutting down on food wasted due to spoilage makes both good financial and environmental sense. According to official statistics, we waste about 25% of the fresh fruits and vegetables we buy. The OXO Greensaver system keeps produce fresher longer by combining three elements. The first is a gas-absorbing charcoal filter in the top of each Greensaver box. Produce gives off ethylene gas, which causes fruit and vegetables to spoil more quickly. The charcoal filter absorbs the ethylene gas, slowing down the aging process. The filters are made from coconut husks, making them safe, all-natural and non-toxic. Second, there's an adjustable vent in the lid of each Greensaver box. This sliding vent allows you to adjust the moisture level inside the Greensave box to optimal level for the type of producr you're storing; a chart on the bottom of the vent has a guide to the vent positions for popular types of produce. Finally, the inner container in the Greensaver box, which doubles as a colander, allows air to circulate all around and under fresh produce, to prevent rotting.
