That's because the Barista Express gives you the ability make espresso with one-button convenience, using your own fresh-ground beans. And by fresh, we mean fresh; the built-in, stainless-steel burr ginder in the Barista Express delivers the grounds directly into the porta-filter, so you're pulling a shot just seconds after the beans have been ground. The burr grinder is adjustable for both the fineness of the grounds and for the quantity of coffee. Breville's patented Razor dosing tool trims the puck to the correct level, so you get consistent extraction, and the removable tamper is built in, next to the porta-filter for convenience.
Water coming from the 2-liter tank (with built-in water filter) is heated by a stainless-steel thermo-coil system, with a PID digital temperature control for thermal stability, even when using the steamer. An Italian-made, 15-bar pump supplies the pressure, with an automatic low-pressure, pre-extraction water infusion to expand the grounds for optimum extraction. After the shot is pulled, the Barista Express automatically presses water out of the puck, so clean up is easy. The porta-filter measures 54mm and holds any of the four filter baskets, one or two dose baskets each in single and dual-wall designs. The steam wand swivels 360 degrees. There's a hot water outlet, a cup-warming tray, and a removable drip tray with a level indicator, The Barista Express comes with a coffee scoop, a stainless-steel milk steaming jug, as well as with a cleaning brush and cleaning tablets.
